Raw Mango Rice Recipe (Andhra Style)-Mamidikaya Pulihora

 As a mark of new season, mangoes are available and grown in India during April-june season. At home, we end up making variety of dishes, pickles, salad with mangoes. This is a rice dish made out of raw mango which is spicy, tangy and yummy for summer season.It’s a version of Mango rice (Andhra style) prepared with raw mangoes. It is very easy to prepare, needs less ingredients and tastes similar to the South Indian Lemon Rice.This one is very simple recipe and its an easy lunch box idea as well.

    

Ingredients 

   Cooked Rice – 2 cup
   Grated/finely sliced mango -4tsp
   Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
   Salt to taste
   For the seasoning
   Oil – 2 tsp
   Mustard seeds -1 tsp
   Cumin seeds-1 tsp
   Bengal gram/channa dal -2 tsp
   Green/Red chillies -2 (break it into  2 pieces)(as per your choice)
   Peanuts -1/4 cup
   Curry leaves – few

Preparation 

1.Cook rice in such a way that each grain remains separate. Don’t overcook the rice.

2.Wash, peel and grate raw mangoes.

3.In Pan add oil,Fry peanuts separately and keep it aside. (You can also fry along with dal in medium   flame but should take care not to burn the peanuts)

4.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds,Cumin seeds when it splutters, add bengal gram, red chillies,/green chillies and curry leaves.

5.When dal turns golden brown, add peanuts, turmeric powder, salt to taste.

6.Add grated/finely sliced mangoes and mix well to combine with the spices. Cook for just 1-2 minutes and add cooked rice and mix gently .

7.Serve Hot with curd/raita /papads as side dish.
