Fresh Plum cake(No Alcohol version)#Christmas Baking

Christmas is not complete without a cake.Right???Specially without a Plum cake.So what are you waiting for??Treat yourself and your loved once with these unique plum cake .This Plum cake is made with fresh plums and the recipe is quite different from the regular one.It’s no alcohol version.Generally in alcohol free versions the dry fruits are soaked in orange syrup over night but I choose to cook the plum in orange syrup instead of soaking it.The cake is super soft and melts in mouth.The flavor of fresh plum,orange zest make the cake even more interesting and the dry fruits will give you extra kick.

So lets jump into the recipe with step by step pictures……

For the cake:
2 3/4cups all-purpose flour/Maida
1/2 refined oil/olive oil
2 large eggs
1⁄2cup powdered sugar,
1teaspoon orange zest(freshly grated)
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1⁄4teaspoon salt
1teaspoon baking powder
1⁄2teaspoon baking soda
dry fruits as per your choice(cashew,almonds,cherry)
For plum orange syrup:
Juice of 2 oranges
1teaspoon orange zest(freshly grated)
3-4 teaspoon sugar


For plum orange syrup:

  • Cut the plums into halves and remove the stones.
  • In a sauce pan add the chopped plum,sugar and orange syrup and bring to the boil.
  • Cook the plum over medium-low heat until plums are little tender and liquid is syrupy, about 5-6 minutes.Let it cool completely.

  • Remember:You don’t have to cook the plum completely because again it’s going to bake.

For the cake:

  • Preheat the oven at 180 ºC(350 ºF).
  • In a bowl shift flour,baking powder,baking soda,cinnamon powder and keep aside.
  • Take another bowl and cream the sugar and oil with an electric mixer until pale in color.

  • Now add eggs(one at a time)and beat until light and fluffy.

  • Add orange zest and mix again.


  • Now add the plum-orange syrup,dry fruits and add the dry ingredients

  • Mix gently and fold the mixture.

  • Spoon the batter into an greased cake pan. Arrange some dry fruits on the top and bake at 180 degree C for about 30-35 minutes.

  • Bake until the cake is golden and a toothpick inserted into a center part of the cake comes out free of batter.

  • Let it cool.
  • Once cool,cut and serve the cake with tea or coffee.

  • But I would suggest serve the cake on next day after baking.Because the cake tastes even better on the second day, when those plum release the juices into the cake and cake becomes even more soft and flavorful.
